Mobile App for a Lifestyle Startup.

About Fit For Bucks

Fit for Bucks is a mobile app enabling users to redeem their daily step counts for products from local merchants.

Traditional retail stores have faced challenges in converting foot traffic into sales, especially with the rise of online and mobile shopping. Recognizing the value of time and the decline in spontaneous exploration, our client sought to rejuvenate this experience and draw customers back to brick-and-mortar shops. The Fit for Bucks app was conceived as the solution to foster this renewed engagement between consumers and traditional stores.

Project Overview

Background

Traditional retail stores have long grappled with converting customers as online and mobile shopping surged in popularity. Understandably, consumers prioritize time efficiency and are less inclined to aimlessly explore physical shops.

Our client sought to revitalize this experience and draw consistent foot traffic back to brick-and-mortar stores. The Fit for Bucks app was envisioned as the solution to foster this rejuvenated connection between consumers and traditional retail outlets.

Conception

Our primary design objectives revolved around enhancing the UX of the Fit for Bucks iOS app while preserving its familiar aesthetic and highlighting intuitive and dynamic features crucial for fitness enthusiasts.

To achieve this, we refined the dashboards and data visualization, emphasized award redemption cards, and streamlined the onboarding process.

In terms of mobile development, we tackled various tasks such as developing the iOS application, constructing the API, and creating the Admin Portal with scalability in mind.

Fit for Bucks heavily relies on integration with wearable devices, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Each activity tracker from different manufacturers operates uniquely, necessitating custom sync methods to ensure smooth functionality across devices.

Mission

The team at Fit for Bucks initially approached us with a functional UI/UX prototype and a technical inquiry to build an MVP. The app’s concept focused on utilizing wearable technologies to encourage fitness and attract individuals to local brick-and-mortar establishments.

Development

We crafted an iOS frontend utilizing Swift alongside a Ruby on Rails backend. Additionally, we constructed a bespoke administrative panel to facilitate app management. Our approach involves ongoing refinement based on user feedback.

Outcome

Fit for Bucks went live on the App Store in 2018 and has since grown its user base mainly in the Los Angeles, Santa Monica area. They have tracked nearly 5.5 billion steps since their inception.
